About Me

Mary Ramsey
Born in Myrtle Beach, SC
Lives & works in Charlotte, NC
I'm a multimedia journalist currently working as the local government accountability and politics reporter for The Charlotte Observer, covering Mecklenburg County, state and national politics and more. I was among the Observer reporters named finalists for a Pulitzer Prize in 2025 for our coverage of the devastation in Western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene.

In addition to my time in Charlotte, I've had the honor of working at The (Louisville) Courier Journal at a time when the staff won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News in 2020 and followed that up with placing as a finalist in 2021 for another Pulitzer. I was an intern at The Arizona Republic through the prestigious Dow Jones News Fund program.
I also care far too much about my beloved South Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves. When not working, I'm probably reading, running or yelling Jeopardy! answers at the TV.
